Bothered about being underpaid for your efforts at work? Very few people are paid their true worth actually. However, John Ruskin gives another insight into the situation as follows:
The highest reward for a person’s toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it”
Therefore, if you must make any critical career decision under those circumstances, they should be made in terms of other values you are getting from the job, renumeration apart; for instance
- does your job expose you to any opportunities?
- are you learning new skills on the job that would make you more relevant in future?
- are you making new connections and contacts, i.e. is your network increasing?
- are you getting more valuable as an individual, is your net worth increasing?
If you answered ‘no’ to most of the questions above, then it might be time to make a change. Otherwise, you might just have been viewing life through the lenses of your needs. No one makes quality decisions from a poverty or greed influenced point of view.
You need wisdom and insight to make balanced decisions and choices in similar circumstances and always.
